Cape Girardeau artist, Regina Smart, began painting lessons in 1998 at the Cleda Curtis Art School in Oran , Missouri . Regina 's passion for painting grew from the weekly lessons with accomplished professional artist, Cleda Curtis. “I learned color theory, composition, and the principles and elements of good paintings from Cleda. She is an exceptional artist and teacher who has helped so many students develop their own artistic ability”.
Regina teaches computer networking and information systems classes in the College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University and devotes her summer and weekends to painting. She generally works in oils and pastels, but also enjoys watercolor and acrylic. Regina primarily paints still lifes and portraits. Her portraits are usually of friends and family members and are often of sports related events and activities. Also an avid photographer, Regina utilizes a digital camera to capture “moments in time” and still life setups for painting.
In additional to her formal training with Cleda Curtis, Regina has attended workshops by well-known artists including Arleta Pech, Joseph Fettingis, Joan Potter, Timothy Tyler, Morgan Samuel Price and Diane L. Johnson. She also has an extensive library of painting books and videos that provide inspiration and motivation as well as technique.
